Bitcoin Life Insurer Meanwhile Raises $37.5M for Global Expansion
Meanwhile raised $37.5 million from existing investors to expand Bitcoin-denominated life insurance through international brokers.
Meanwhile raised $37.5 million, bringing total funding above $180 million as the Bitcoin-denominated life insurer expands outside the United States.
Bitcoin-denominated life insurer Meanwhile announced $37.5 million in new funding from existing investors on October 8. Bain Capital Crypto led the round, with participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital. The company says it has now raised more than $180 million.
The financing is intended to support international distribution rather than a new token or public offering. Readers can follow broader institutional adoption through the OrangeX.com news hub.
What the company plans to expand
Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay in early 2026 for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. A policyholder pays one premium in bitcoin and receives a guaranteed death benefit denominated in bitcoin. After the first year, the owner may borrow up to 90% of the policy value, according to the company, without a fixed repayment schedule or margin calls.
The insurer says it has signed 15 broker partners serving families in markets including Singapore, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and Switzerland. The product is offered only through licensed intermediaries where permitted and is not available in every jurisdiction.
Capital, regulation and custody
Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited received a Class IILT license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority in July 2024 after two years in the regulator's sandbox. Its balance sheet, reserves and audited statements are denominated in bitcoin, while policyholder assets are held by regulated institutional custodians.
Audited figures for December 31, 2025 showed 1,183 BTC in total assets and 759 BTC in statutory capital and surplus. The latest announcement says net long-term underwriting income has already exceeded the prior year's total and is on track to more than double in 2026, but it does not disclose an absolute income figure. Institutional custody developments can be compared with OrangeX.com reporting on Singapore digital-asset custody.
What customers and investors still need to assess
Bitcoin-denominated premiums, reserves and benefits reduce currency mismatch inside the policy structure, but they do not remove bitcoin price volatility for customers measuring wealth in fiat currency. Buyers also need to assess insurer solvency, custody concentration, lending exposure, fees, policy terms and local tax treatment.
The funding round does not make the policies liquid trading instruments and does not guarantee future profitability. Readers tracking the underlying asset can consult the verified BTC/USDT spot market on OrangeX.com, while keeping market exposure separate from an insurance contract.
OrangeX.com Analysis
The round shows investors backing insurance as a long-duration layer of the Bitcoin economy, beyond trading and custody. The operational test is whether Meanwhile can scale distribution while preserving underwriting discipline, reserve strength and clear jurisdictional controls.
Confirmed facts are the $37.5 million round, more than $180 million raised in total, 15 broker partners and the audited 2025 balance-sheet figures. Customer demand, 2026 underwriting income and future policy performance are company-reported or forward-looking and require later financial disclosures for verification.
